On February 7th, the Beaumont City Council approved the first reading of a new ordinance that would prohibit anyone within City limits from allowing a dog under their supervision from creating excessive noise after a code enforcement officer has issued a written notice. The goal of the new ordinance is to curb the excessive whining and barking of neighborhood dogs.
Code enforcement officers will work with the pet guardian as well as those who complained to come up with a solution that is mutually beneficial, however beware repeat offenders will be faced with more sever consequences including fines. The ordinance is complaint based, so officers will not be on patrol for pesky pooches but will respond to calls from the neighbors regarding noise complaints.
The second reading is set for February 21, and then it will become a law. This ordinance follows another that was recently passed passed by the council requiring people to clean up after their pets and is all with the hopes of encouraging responsible pet owners in the city of Beaumont.
