Project Pet

Project Pet is a program that was developed to help offset the cost of pet ownership for those on disability or a limited income. Made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation of Riverside, this pet assistance program serves the areas of Yucaipa, Calimesa, Mentone, Redlands, San Bernardino, Beaumont and Banning. Qualifying individuals can use the program to assist for various veterinary expenses ranging from routine care, like wellness exams, to emergency issues, like a swollen paw.

Assistance comes in the form of a voucher that can be taken to a participating vet that will bill YAPS for the cost of the visit or treatment. The maximum amount allotted per qualifying household, not pet, is $250. Unfortunately YAPS cannot always guarantee the amount of $250 per qualifying household, as funds are based on funding availability at the time of application.

The voucher issued is good for one vet visit. Should financial assistance be needed again at a later date, qualifying households will need to reapply to the program to receive aid and will again be subject to funding availability.

 To qualify for our program:

  • Applicants must live in one of the qualifying areas of Yucaipa, Calimesa, Mentone, Redlands, San Bernardino, Beaumont and Banning
  • Income must be less than $1,300 a month for a single income household or $2,500 a month for a multi-income household.
  • Submit proof of the following:
    • Identification, like a CA driver’s license
    • Two different proofs showing the household income amount, like a statement from social security, employment check stubs, and/or a current checking account statement
    • Residency, like a utility bill
    • Pet ownership, like a veterinary receipt, license, or photo
